Newport, Rhode Island is one of my favorite destinations, mainly for its abundance of beautiful Gilded Age mansions which were the summer "cottages" of many famous tycoons in the late 1800s. A full city guide will be available in the near future, but until then please enjoy A Glimpse of Newport by Julia Dzafic, longtime fan of the seaside city, author of the insanely popular blog, Lemon Stripes, and mom to Amalia, 1.
Bakery/desserts? The cafe at Stoneacre Brasserie
Neighborhood? I like walking around near the Hotel Viking, it's a little less crowded than Thames Street and the Wharfs.
Park? Fort Adams
Museum? Touring The Breakers or one of the mansions that they've turned into museums
Spa? I've actually never had extra time to go to a spa in Newport but I'll report back when I do!
General travel favorites...
Destination with kids? Bermuda
Destination with spouse? Turks & Caicos
Stroller? We need a good travel stroller!
Kids travel bag? LL Bean Boat and Tote
Your handbag? Louis Vuitton GM Neverfull (it's huge!)
Airplane activity for kids? iPad, is that bad?
Airplane activity for yourself? Watching movies
Must-have for your child's carry on? Extra snacks and a new toy they've never seen before
Must-have for your carry-on? A good book, Airpods, hand sanitizer
Tips? Temper your expectations when traveling with your kids. It won't be the same as a romantic getaway. Don't get overzealous in planning out your days, I like to plan one thing per day and then see where it takes us.
